SANA (Syrian Arab News Agency), Syria, 28 September 2002
Summary of front-page report by M. Malla

A Tishrin editorial says that halting the Palestinian national resistance by military force is impossible because ending the intifada depends on ending the occupation. It calls on the world, and the Western democracies especially, to put an end to Israeli aggression and force Israel to implement international resolutions, including the latest demanding a halt to its aggression against the Palestinian people.

The front-page editorial of the Al-Thawra daily calls on the Arabs to do their duty by supporting the Palestinian intifada by every means until its political objectives are realized. It demands the refurbishing of the practical contents of the joint Arab defense agreement in order to crystallize a real inter-Arab solidarity capable of removing the divisions and the weakness of the Arab nation and preventing Israeli attempts to liquidate the Palestinians or force them to emigrate.

Note: The Koran teaches that Moslem aggression cannot exist because it prescribes the jihad - i.e. the conquest of territory ruled by non-Moslems - as a religious duty rewarded by paradise. In other words, aggression can only be committed by non-Moslems trying to prevent Moslem expansion. International resolutions are regarded as binding when they serve the interests of Islam. Otherwise, they are violently opposed or disregarded.
