Tishrin, Syria, 28 May 2002 Summary of editorial
Israel did not respond to the peace initiative of Beirut Arab Summit. On the contrary, it committed the massacre in the Jenin refugee camp, destroyed the city of Bethlehem and continued to invade other Palestinian cities. We are surprised by the international community's silence about Sharon's acts. The US should take an effective role in pressuring Israel and forcing it to implement UN resolutions, which are indispensable if peace is to be established in the region.

Al-Ba'ath, Syria, 28 May 2002
Syria conditions the establishment of peace in the Middle East on the implementation of UN resolutions. The firm stand of President Bashar Al-Assad on this issue has put an end to recent attempts to re-start the peace process on new premises contradicting these resolutions and the principles of the international legitimacy. The Syrian-Lebanese stance has exposed Israel's intention and foiled its conspiracies. Syria categorically rejects any change in the international resolutions and clings to the text and spirit of UN resolutions 242, 338 and 425.

Al-Thawra, Syria, 28 May 2002
The differences between the Israeli parties regarding the peace are a farce and part of a political game aiming to mislead world public opinion and present Israel to the world as a lamblike creature.
Ariel Sharon has proposed not to discuss a definitive settlement with the Palestinians and Benjamin Netanyahu rejects the establishment of a Palestinian state. This indicates that the proposals of the two men are two sides of the same coin, because the policy of all Israeli parties is based on killing, destruction and rejecting peace.
Note:
All three editorials are typically Arab: The "facts" are imaginary — and then the opinions are based on them. UN Resolutions 242 and 338 do not require Israel to withdraw from all territories occupied in 1967 and do not mention a Palestinian state. So Israel has already implemented them. UN Resolution 425 was implemented by Israel, but not by Hezbollah or by Lebanon and Syria, which condone its continued attacks on Israel. Lebanon has made no attempt to sends its army to replace Hezbollah in and near the border area.
