Sudan News Agency (SUNA), Sudan, 24 September 2002
Summary of report

Sudan has categorically denied press reports attributed to its Minister of Foreign Affairs that Sudan had decided to permit American forces to pursue elements of the Al-Qaeda organization inside its territories.

The spokesman of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Al-Saddiq Al-Maghli, affirmed in a statement to the press that the reports were untrue. He explained that the Minister of Foreign Affairs did not receive any request of this kind from US officials whom he met during his recent visit to Washington. No American official mentioned the existence of any elements of Al-Qaeda in Sudan, let alone asking for permission to pursue them in the country.

Contrary to these false reports, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Mustafa Osman Ismail, affirmed that Sudan and US are satisfied with their cooperation in combating terrorism.
